To me the "rock nest" looks man made and artificial. I think it detracts from an otherwise very nice photo. Do you have any images from the right or left?

For me it was this man made rock pile that caught my eye. I don't have another shot from this exact spot but do from a spot across the water.
I think the rock nest makes an excellent foreground. It provides a sense of mystery, and allows me to think more about who might have decided to create it. This photo reminds me of the work of Andy Goldsworthy. He is famous for organizing rocks, sticks, or other natural elements, then photographing the process as nature destroys it.

Thank you Ben. I agree. Though man-made it is a something different and interesting. I too wondered what the point is of this. My guess since this is right near a camp ground it was made by some kids having fun. I there there was another now that I think of it. Maybe a game of war!

It's kind of like a False Kiva for a lake.
I like it!
Sometimes I find those things way up on the peaks of some mountains. Probably built to hide from the wind.
Great clouds in the second one.
Thank you Craig. This would be large enough to hide it. I think this was roughly 8ft in diameter.

I agree, Being man-made isn't an automatic exclusion. These rocks are obviously from the area and provide a context. Now if it were concrete & steel, I would have an issue with it
The more I read, the more I believe that those on the peaks of the mountains were an attempt at shelter from lightning. Did they work? Only Buzz and Smokey could tell you... But they are currently unavailable.
