I wasn't really sure where to put these two photos in the forums. People didn't seem right but figured theres some pretty cool landscapes in at least one of them. Thoughts and comments are welcome!!!
Steel wool is flammable for a short amount of time. You connect a cable to it, light the wool on fire, and go for a 2-3 second exposure (or whatever you need). When you light it on fire, you spin the cable around and the bits of steel wool sparks fly off creating the awesome arc you see here.
Correct^ haha we tied the rope to a whisk and you cram the wool into the whisk. Just light it and take a bunch of photos around 1-3 seconds. The wool burns really hot, making sure the ground is wet is a must, unless you want to start a few small fires.
Well I'm glad you posted them here! Unusual = great.
The whirling sparks lead the eye into the person very well and it makes it impossible to NOT ask questions. Score!
No problem. It usually just smolders but once you light it and get it swinging it starts to break apart. It's pretty cool watching without even taking photos. I recommend wearing a hat or hood for your hair and go somewhere people won't notice because it sure attracts attention very quickly.
Nice going...I've been wanting to do this in one area that's a rock outcropping surrounded by water..would make for a great shot. I'd have to take my kayak out to get to it though.
