i recently picked up an x100 and have been pretty happy, but close focusing with the OVF is practically useless. is that element one of the improvements of the S or were these taken with the EVF?
1) The x100s will focus closer without using macro.
2) Definitely recommend having the 2 focussing boxes in the OVF so you can aim close-ups better.
3) These were taken with the EVF because the framing of some (like the first) was critical. The problem is that in manual mode when you have press it darkens down to the ambient (and the modelling light wasn't enough) so it goes black right before the photo. But if you press through it's only 1/5 sec or so and with the image review on 1/2 sec in the VF I can quickly see if they blinked.
4) Basically I prefer the EVF for these but if you want to look the whole time, the OVF with the dashed box works OK too.
5) If you press the left wheel (macro) twice then touch the shutter button you can switch to macro in an instant with the camera at your eye. No big deal.
6) One of the firmwares allowed closer x100 focussing. 1.2 maybe? Check you're up to date.
Ian, was the light source a big window, and what was the time of the day, if so? Beautiful work and it has a real medium format look/feel, for me. Superb portraits.

How do I get this to return in the view finder? I have been trying all settings and can't seem to locate it!!
