I've struggled with how to decorate with my photography for years. My favorite photos are of things like abandoned gas stations and wrecked cars, but that never felt like what I should be putting on the wall.
This time, my wife and kids all liked these photos and thought they'd look cool on the wall, so I seized on the opportunity.
I got the smc Pentax-FA 400mm f5.6 ED IF for my 645Z thinking it may make an interesting long distance portrait lens, but all I can find to test it on are some freeloader birds and squirrels.
I try to make it a point to photograph something during the solstice and equinox. This year was particularly difficult because of the persistent rain and overcast conditions. While ideal for wildlife photography, this light can be a challenge along the coast where one wants the sun to be a part of the image. I decided to use my Hasselblad for this year's winter solstice. If I don't make a point of saying "this is a Hasselblad Day," I just grab the Nikons... it's probably my familiarity and comfort with my Z9 and Z8 that causes me to reach for these first.
Anyway, here are the two images from the Winter Solstice, 2025... they are not great, but at least it's something.
