Cool shots Douglas! I like the special NASA paint jobs
I would have said T-38 too. I guess the airshow should know though 😄
Looking forward to more airshow photos! Have a great time!
Thank you Robert! The NASA team will fly in California according to their schedule below. I will definitely go see them in DC on July 4, if it doesn't rain. I bet there will be a big flyover of military jets for the 250th anniversary celebration.
April 16: Sun ‘N Fun Aerospace Expo, Lakeland, Florida
July 4: Salute to America: The Nation’s 250th Birthday Fireworks Celebration, Washington, D.C.
July 23-24: EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Aug. 23: Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C.
Oct. 3-4: Pacific Air Show, Huntington Beach, California
Oct. 31-Nov. 1: Commemorative Air Force Wings Over Houston Air Show
On Tuesday, April 14, I drove 930 miles (14 hours) all by myself to Florida for the sunset/evening airshow at Sun N Fun on Wednesday. And I drove back home on Thursday, got home alive after unknown number of Red Bulls were consumed and many gallons of gas were burned. Originally, I signed up for an air-to-air shoot on Tuesday but the whole project got cancelled.
The main draw for me was the F-22 demo at sunset. I have seen the F-22 demo maybe 30 times but first time ever at sunset. 28 hours of driving for 15 minutes of fun. To me, it's worth it, even without the air-to-air shoot. Here are some of the shots of the F-22 demo from Wednesday evening.

Thank you Jim! I envy you guys that you have hummingbirds year round. Great shots of the handsome male! I keep looking out my window hoping to see hummingbirds, but none so far. There have been sightings reported. I just need to be patient.

Jaw-dropping images, Doug! Wow, 28 hours of driving... for sure you are a dedicated aviation photographer!
Thank you Joshua! I can't imaging going to Central/South America for birds or flying to Japan to see the snow monkeys, but military planes are my thing, I guess. I have gone to Europe for airshows and flew to California just for a sunset airshow. The light at sunset is miles better than the typical 10:00 AM-4:00PM shows.
I sure enjoy your travel pictures, wildlife, people, landscape... You are master of all trades!

Incredible images Douglas. Sorry I missed your visit.
Love the snow monkey images Joshua. I'm scheduled there next January and already looking forward to it (although maybe not the cold...)
White-backed Vulture
Thank you Ed! I spent 2 hours at that usual location for spoonbills, nothing! I stopped by the Orlando Wetlands for an hour Thursday morning on my long way home just to have a feel. Saw lot of spoonbills there.
You have posted some fantastic closeups of wildlife!

Wow! That’s some serious driving!
Looks like it was worth it though. Great images! The light is fantastic!
Appreciate the info on the NASA planes. Looks like Huntington Beach is the closest to me
Thank you Robert! Yes, sunset shows are so much better than the typical day time shows with harsh light and heat shimmering. The only reason I flew to Sacramento two years ago just for an airshow was it was held at sunset! BTW, I got VERY few keepers from thousands of shots of prop. planes this time. My panning skill is very rusty.

Thank you very much, Ed! The snow storm was really heavy and lasted some 2 days; one program in our itinerary got canceled and our flight the day before was delayed. Luckily, we still made it to Jigokudani for the snow monkeys. And the train connection from there was still in full operation.
