I think the second one for this year, for two reasons: 1) In the first, the cabin is so far away that I can't definitely tell it's the same one as in all the previous years' shots. B) I think the light is way more pleasing (in my opinion) in the second shot.
A beautiful series - each & every photo a treat to view.
For 2014 - #2 is my fav - love the flowers & the cabin in the distance with the beautiful lighting
One thing I've learned shooting many old miner cabins here, you don't want to see the inside. Photogenic on the outside, disaster on the inside. Mouse/rat/squirrel/bird hantavirus heaven ...
Such a neat project! I am going to go with #2, but I think #1 could easily be my first pick if you added a little contrast and maybe darkened it just a tad. It looks a little washed out to me.
This is such an enjoyable series. Both the 2014's are great but if I had to pick one it would be the second one. Foreground, tighter composition and outhouse makes it for me.

Thanks for you opinion AND explaning it. I see your point of view. It seems that most of this forum share your opinion too!

A lot of one scene to take in, but these are wonderful images, Gordon. Fabulous work here!
Thanks Jeff. It's a lot to take in but it is spread out over 8 years. You just happen to get the whole thing in a few seconds. This is something that takes time. Slow down and enjoy the ride.
That is quite the series you have been compiling letting this be one of the few times we allow exceptions to the 5 photo limit for our threads.
For your 2014 selections, #2 to me is the winner hands down... For my eyes... the only chance your #1 shot to beat out #2 is to add some more contrast to #1. It feels a bit washed out. You worked the image wonderfully, just add a bit more contrast, or pull down the midtones some more.
Jim
Thank you Jim. I wondered about that contrast in #1 and will adjust it some.
I hoped that once a year, I'd break the 5-image limit rule and get away with it. Thanks!

Gordon,
Great series! Do you stay at this cabin? It'd be awesome to spend a week there.
Hi Sunny,
I don't stay here. I stay at a cabin WITH indoor plumbing about a mile away. I can see this small cabin from where I stay and it just brings me back year after year.

Ah it's the time of the year for the cabin series . I think a few more years and you might have a very nice coffee table book there. Beautiful photos throughout all the years.
Jason
Coffee table book is a great idea. I"ll produce one in a couple years!

It has been a year already? Wow! It seems like only yesterday that you posted your last installment.
My favorite is #2 from the 2014 series. I really like the side lighting, and the calm feeling it gives me when I view it. I'll echo Jim's thoughts regarding adding a bit of contrast to the foreground of the first. That's also a lovely shot, but I think the light quality is much nicer in the second, plus you don't have to deal with the bright highlights of the sun, which are always difficult.
The years go by quickly. I'm seeing that more and more (in my forties!).
Thanks for helping me chose between #1 and #2. I think #2 is the clear pick for this year and will join the collection. You'll see it next year when I add another shot to the group!

Gordon
great job on this series, my choice would be the second one of this year because I prefer seeing more ground around the cabin so a higher up view instead on ground level view
