Bee, What I find helpful in getting the bird in frame with a long lens is to use the twist bolt for the lens hood as a spotting sight. I line up the bird with that and then seem to find it easier in the viewfinder.
I also use the teleconverter/extender and it seems like focus hunts more and is slower, so if you can add tips for that it would be much appreciated.

Hi Mike,
I do the exact same thing with the bolt on the lens hood. It really does help!
I also use the "long lens technique" - holding my arm a certain way. You can google it.
I agree with the teleconverter - I am thinking it takes tons of practice

Great IF shots here. Just a comment; I notice the fine detail is lost when your ISO is higher. Just the way it is. I certainly don't see a lot of noise.
