1st and 4th shots are quiet good. The higher perspective (almost aerial) really shows the landscape well.

Thanks Gary and Gordon, it's very interesting to hear each other's different preferences. The last one, the fourth, is a 3 stitch vertical panorama. The 1st, 2nd and 4th are single exposures, and the 3rd is a 6 stitch vertical pano from the top of Aasgard pass.

pretty cool how the 4th one has the stark brown and gray high altitude and then the background mountains have the rich green forest and grasses

i know that area well. my favorite place in the Cascades. haven't been there in quite some time. thanks for the reminder of its beauty. Colchuck Lake, Dragontail and all.

Permit Lottery?!!! well, it has been 25 years from my last walk through.

you just made me pull out my 1973 1st edition Cascade mountain guide signed by Fred Becky himself.

#2 is my favorite. I tend to like tighter compositions like that these days though. I understand the desire to leave behind the big camera.

My thinking goes that the quality may not be as good, but a picture that you got because you had more energy and could go further because you are carrying 5 less pounds is better than a picture you missed because you were carrying too much weight. Besides small cameras these days offer pretty exceptional IQ, it's not like you are choosing between amazing IQ with the SLR and horrific IQ with the smaller camera.

A lovely set from one of the most beautiful areas of our state. Very well done.

Great images, Chris. Number four reminds me of Chicken Leg Lake(but prettier) in the Eastern Sierra. A great adventure and well done. I think your of choice of cameras is what I would do. When I backpacked, it seemed that everyone I knew went to great lengths to shave ounces. I really admire Jim for taking what he needs to get the images he might encounter, but wow.

Love the last two, Chris. Great shots!
I certainly sympathize with the weight discussions... I'm still hemming and hawing about what to take for my next trip.

Looks like a great trip judging from the pictures...just going to have to do it with someone else who can share gear with you next time.

I never thought a 'fixed lens' camera can this good, but the shots teach me lessons.

Still I subscribe to JimFox vehemently, as a landscape photog.
The feature-filled 5D3 + couple of wides, say a 17mm, 24 are the best in such wild terrains.
While your shots are extraordinarily good, I yearn to see few wide shots of such expanse wilderness...

Sure, I respect the circumstances and your personal choice...

Thanks Chuck, and I agree about Jim,a stronger man than I if he can lug that all up Aasgard Pass.

Thanks Sunny, it was a bit of a personal test for me as well. When I return this year I will likely bring an X-T1 and 14mm for the wide. Although I found the ability to charge the RX1R from a USB battery like Anker quite valuable, even though I brought 5 batteries for 5 days.

Good point Scott, but I can see some of the fights happening now for the ultra wide during sunrise

These are all beautiful! I especially like #2 for the visual depth your composition and aperture create.
Thanks for posting these.
