I’m not sure I agree that the 50 1.8s is everything the Sigma was and more. I have and really like the 50 1.8s. I also used to own the Sigma 50 1.4 Art and it was a special lens. The falloff was beautiful and it was sharp. You paid a big weight penalty but the IQ was top notch. Wish I had kept it. The 50 1.8s is a beauty though.
I also have the itch to re-acquire the 85 1.4D but I have too many lenses to justify adding it.
I never used the Sigma, saw it in store and it was huge to say the least, from samples I didn't like the out of focus area, it looked a bit busy and nervous, the sharpness is there but I value a more balanced rendering for a portrait lens and in a 50 I look for size I can slide in a bag if not in a pocket and the Sigma doesn't fit any of the two.
I had for a while a Fuji with the amazing 35/1.4R, equivalent to 50mm on full frame, what a little lens it was, super sharp and with a recognisable character, still, if the background was busy I didn't like how it rendered it but this is another topic.
The 50/1.8S is half the size of the Sigma and half the price, sharp all across the frame, can't tell where the Sigma does better as I never used it in person but the Nikon does pretty well, it's not THE 50 but finally a good one.
Beautiful photos, I have never tried a lens like this. But, after seeing the results I think I will buy a used Sony camera and pick up a very fast 3rd party lens with good reviews.
