I went this weekend and bivouacked on the top of South Sister. It was weird how calm the winds were and how warm is was this particular evening. It is up at 10,358 and there is no wind break. Every time I have been up there in the past the wind is just nuking. There was a forest fire that had just got started north of were I was so there was alot of smoke in the air that made for a nice sunset. Let me know what you think
Oh. My. God. This is absolutely incredible. I can't fault it.
I love the incredible contrast of snow and dark. It's just brilliant. The more I look at it the more the subtleties reveal themselves to me.
One small comment though - the cooler blue in the top right draws my eye a little away from the rest of the scene. Perhaps a small selective burn there might help it to blend in a little better. That said, at its current brightness it forces you to consider how the warm the light is in other areas of the scene.
The dappled snow is amazing and this is one heck of a view. The sunset colours top it off.
Warm and calm are not words I would usually associate with a scene like this, must have been a pretty special time you had up there.
