Beware of APO Lanthar.
This is a lens that has derailed/de-stabilised many sorted kits. Its an expensive lens because you buy it then you start rebuilding/re-gapping your kit again because 65mm is such an odd focal length.
So you had, 21/35/50-55/85
Now you buy 65 and wonder what to do with 55 and 85 and sell them to buy 135, etc etc
What about strip it right down to 15/28/65/135? But I know what you mean, that seems a little radical. Maybe this lens will have to disrupt the gaping symmetry. Right now I'm thinking 15/21/40/65/85 with the AF coming only on the 85 and a 24-105. 2/6 of the way there

A great gap for me personally is: CV 15/4.5, Loxia 21/2.8, ZF 28/2, CV 40/1.2, CV 65/2 and Batis 135/2.8. It's about 20 degrees AOV between primes. The only lens on the line-up that needs some stopping down for the corners is the ZF 28/2 but it looks amazing at f/8 across the field. Still hoping for a lighter Loxia 28 though.
I have the Loxia 21/2.8, Batis 25/2, CV 40/1.2, Sony 55/1.8, CV 65/2, Batis 85/1.8 and looking to add the CV 15/4.5 and the Batis 135/2.8.
So my MF kit will be 15/21/40/65 and AF will be 25/55/85/135. The 135 might also become part of my MF kit since the lens is suppose to be very good .. better then other native prime options around that focal length and I want to start trying longer focal length images.

I love that roadmap. But I couldn't pass up the value pick of the Sony 85f1.8. I got the other value pick of the 28mm, which I was thinking of selling to bring some more spread back to my picks i.e. allow for the 21/40 combo without too much overlap. But I really like the 28! Good to know from you that you value it so highty esp stopped down. These damn value options, they make our lives so difficult!

Fred is referring to the 28mm ZF; a Nikon mount lens.
oh right, thanks. I didn't read closely enough. But my personal conundrum with the Sony 28mm still applies. Perhaps not legendary performance but good in so many ways, for me. But hard to configure with 21 and 40 if I'm trying to keep the number of lenses down to a handful
Finally, my copy will be with me tomorrow! Been a long three weeks since I ordered it 😀 I think that I'll be one of a very exclusive voigtländer 65/2 Swedish owners (for now anyway!) This is my first ever voigtländer and I can't wait... 😉

Congrats! Looking forward to your comments. This lens is on my short list (along with about 4 others :-))
Hope you like the 65 as much as I do. I really like the IQ and the handling. Would love to see a 21mm from them equal in IQ to my Loxia since I prefer the CV aperture ring and focusing

I feel better I only have 2 on my list.
I'm sure that's a good feeling. It's been a while since I've only had 2 - the last time was before I joined this forum! Some of you guys should really get sales commission from these vendors.

+1
The Voigtlander E-mount lenses handle so well, just a pleasure to use. For someone with large hands (me), the Loxia ergonomics leave a lot to be desired.

My biggest pet peeve with Loxia's lenses are the aperture ring is too close to the body and worse its the same diameter. They should have made the diameter a little bigger over the barrel size. Be much easier to use

Hope so too! My Loxia 50 is a pleasure to use and can't wait to get my hands on this 65 😀📷
Bottom line and Ive been around hundreds of lenses this CV 65 APO is the absolute best IQ wise lens you can mount on a Sony body. The Batis 135mm is that same type of lens. I would put this lens up against anything in the market. Strong statement coming from me.

Is the QC on this lens hit/miss like some of the others or is there a strong chance of getting a good one the first time?
Extremely great chance of getting a good one. I have yet to hear of any variance. I actually sold mine because I needed some more money for funding my A7rIII. I chose this lens to sell knowing when I buy it back there is no lottery game to it.
Yes i need to buy it back soon too. I got that itch again.

I would not worry about the CV 65/2...Same for Loxia 50/2 and Batis 135/2.8. I tried many copies (including rentals) and they were all pretty much perfect.
today the postman brought me my CV65, this forum is entirely responsible for this lens choice, just want to say THANKS
Had the 24-105 on pre-order when i decided to go with the cv 40 & 65, I now have them all, no problem as i want af in this FL, however I saw my 24-105 as my landscape lens, 12-24, 24-105 both very good lenses, the CV's have thrown a spanner in the works,
