A really exceptional set of work, thank you for sharing. I've recently been focusing on making more of my work B&W and seem to be truly gravitating in that direction, in part because of the post you shared last year. So thanks again.
One question I have, is how much post is being done on these? The subjects always stand out so well and I am wondering if you have a certain methodology you use or what the secret sauce might be. Any tips are appreciated.
Hey Funky! Thanks man!
Leica M Monochrom files come out of the camera quite flat with a wonderful range of grays to work with. I process my images in Lightroom and finish in Nik Silver Efex Pro with some presets I created.
One thing I try to do when shooting to make my subjects stand out is to try to give them a good figure to ground relationship. I think this helps viewers identify and relate to the subjects in the images.
Just chiming in to say, great work, and I love Leicas as well! I had to give up my M9 last year, but will get one again eventually.
Also, I always have to laugh at photographers that don’t understand the appeal of rangefinders. I mean, why shoot film? Why buy impractical old muscle cars? I don’t know... why do people enjoy cooking? It’s because the process can be just as important or enjoyable as the results. It’s not just about getting from A to B!
Wonderful, intimate, peek into your family life. The emotion and interactions speak loudly and reveal character and personality. Great work ! These are the type of shots that will be revisited and appreciated more and more as time goes by.
Wow, while procrastinating a bunch of things I should be doing I stumbled upon this thread. I don't know how I missed it in August when it was first posted but I'm glad I saw it now.
The family narrative throughout is fantastic. These images just ooze Americana, like live-action Norman Rockwell vignettes. Truly a joy to flip through these images. #6 really stood out; that was something special.
