Love this lens for close portraits. THis is an old one that I am looking at again as I consider re-aquiring this for a compact kit wiht the 28 and 75 ultron
I have dedicated this lens to be on my SL2S for stills and video work for the past six months.
But when it goes out on my M Bodies, it is such a joy to use.
My comfort zone is that 35mm / 50 mm range and this lens squeezes itself right in the middle and owns that space.
Probably my favorite outdoor MF combo is the CV 15, Loxia 25 and CV 40. All three have beautiful rendering, great contrast, and terrific sun-stars. Plus -- they are relatively small for the "big" images they produce.
Decided to stick with my 40mm Ultron on Z mount, in case anyone is looking for a like new Z mount version of the CV 40/1.2 you'll get a free hood from me
Got this lens 2 days ago (the SE version for Sony) and I really like it. Pairing it with a Sigma 90mm f/2.8 at the tele end, and thinking at a 24mm for the wide end (for a "perfect gaping" trio 24-40-90mm). Just need to decide between the Samyang (f/1.8) or the GM (f/1.4 - at 3x the price).....

I never owned the Sony but I did own the Samyang 24. I would say it's a great lens and compares favorably against the GM in reviews. Only reason I sold it is because after using that focal length for awhile I realize I'm not a fan of it. Prefer 21mm.
I would definitely give the SY a shot before getting the Sony even if you decide you want to get the GM. Considerably cheaper to 'try out' than the reverse.

Excellent point, actually. For a "try out" I should go the cheaper way.
Actually, I had this Samy before, but not bonded with it. But I did like the Loxia 25mm quite a lot. As for wider angles, I had the 20mm G twice and not used it at all. I'd do Loxia again, but I "want" a faster aperture - just hoping for a nice "rendering" (I'm now more about rendering than the sharpness - that's why I considered the 24mm GM in the first place).
I think the Sony 24 is going to render similar to the 20G, just slightly faster and not as wide, just saying. The 20G is a highly rated Sony lens that some say should have been a GM.
They don't quite have the rendering of this or other Voights though but I do think they're pretty close.

Personally, I like the match-up of the Loxia 25 and CV 40/1.2E for general nature and walk-around MF lenses. But something to consider for gapping when a mild tele is thrown into the mix would be either the moderately priced used Loxia 21, or for a little more bulk and weight, the CV 21/1.4E for added versatility of a wide aperture.
I’ve paired a 24 GM with my CV 40, and it’s a beautiful combination. Rendering on the 24 GM is incredible, reminds me of a Zeiss 35 Sonnar, I definitely prefer it to the sample images I’ve seen of the Sony 20G. It’s also nice having an AF alternate to the CV 40. Only issue is size, but it’s expected for a 1.4 wide angle lens.
Went for the Samy in the end.
One factor I considered was the 58mm filter diameter which is the same on CV 40/1.2 and also same on my beloved Sirui 35mm anamorphic lens. And a 55 to 58mm step-up ring will equalize the metrics for the Sigma 90/2.8 as well.
Then, another consideration was the physical dimensions being almost the same between all these (trio) lenses (considering the lenght of the CV with the hood on, Sirui lens excluded).
After years of dreaming about it, I finally got the 21mm f/1.4 Nokton to pair up with the 40mm during the last winter. Got it used in a decent price and seems like a perfect copy mechanically and optically. They really seem like the perfect match for each other. Planning on getting the 75mm f/1.9 Ultron to complete my personal Voigtländer holy trinity.
