Why would you want to preorder it from bestbuy for 200 CAD more than any of the photo stores?

I'm also sure you realize my post was just fun sarcastic humour (hence the grinning angel)...I personally wouldn't even think about adapting a Nikon lens to my Sony as even with the much better Canon adaptors the experience isn't what I want for most of my shooting

for sure, i knew that , my response was made after a long night at work and was a sarcastic one also, just to tired to add the emoji ...people can do/add whatever they want to whatever they want that makes em happy

People didn't need 14 FPS either to get the shot or 12 or 10 or 7 or 5 or 3 or 2....all they ever needed was for something to take "a" shot. But I can guarantee they never got a shot of a Common Yellowthroat in full flight with whatever they were using....now probably no one needs a shot of a Yellowthroat in flight but then again no one needs a shot of 99% of what gets photographed out there. Its all for fun...do you keep your D850 set at Single frame advance AF-S when out shooting warblers??

its in af-c, always, but no battery grip so no 9fps, don't need it, after a while i got tired of the 9fps on my d3s, for me this is a hobby, if i don't get the shot today, well that is what tomorrow is for, i have had way more shots missed due to my bad timing than by the cameras lack of fps, couple years ago i at a local haunt, had an area that i have seen a male northern harrier, he would come cruising through low and slow hunting so one day i decided i was going to sit myself down and wait him out, well he beat me, after 1 1/2 hours i decided to go for a walk, i did, i was then returning to the spot, small bird, way up in a tree, not even a good picture but i took one just to id the bird, putzed around with that for a few minutes then deleted the pic and continued walking back to the spot, got 50ft away, looked up and what do you think i saw? my grey ghost, cruising through where i would of been at shoulder height and then disappeared, had a MAJOR battle with myself to not turn around, walk back to the lagoon and toss the whole d800 and 500mm into the river then go home....and that is just one of my bad timings

Maratus here in the U.S. B&H has it for $3596.95.
BestBuy has it for $3599.99.

In the past on pre orders I've often gotten a product from BestBuy or Amazon
long before B&H and/or Adorama.

Not that I'm in a hurry. I won't use the lens in any sincerity until end of November
but I can have relaxed time getting to know it and I've seen release dates pushed
into the future over and over.

This lens looks amazing! It reminds me of my Canon 400mm f/5.6L. I loved that lens except for the lack of stabilization.

On another note, the integration between the FTZ adapter and the camera looks good. I had the LA-EA4 adapter for Sony and it was much more "clunky." I can't speak for the LA-EA3 though. I'm still sticking with Sony for subjects other than wildlife, but the new Z cameras aren't looking as disappointing as time goes on.

This lens will work on Nikon DSLR’s better than any mirrorless camera, including any Nikon mirrorless.

You heard it here.

Very well said.
Sometimes I really wonder what this generation of photographers are actually looking for? Aiming to perfect their photography skills or photographic gears. In the good old days photographers used whatever available to produce their masterpieces that until today with all those new gears we have is still not able to out match. The next thing is everytime we change gears, we have to restart learning and customizing everything all over again, AFFT, WB, exposure and individual's custom settings and profiles. Two identical cameras or lenses will never perform the same, because the so called consumer gears we are

Oops, I got confused by other replies and thought you ordered it through bestbuy.ca and I didn't look into your profile to check your location

Now, if Nikon can make an adapter weather sealed, why did they not also make the teleconverter weather sealed as well

Suteetat, I find this (or same gist) on several different blogs/reviews of the 1.4TCiii

'Recently, Nikon completely redesigned their 1.4x teleconverter, and released the TC-14EIII. This new teleconverter uses a different optical formula (7 elements in 4 groups) and includes fluorine-coated front and rear elements to improve resistance to dirt and oil. The body of the TC-14EIII was also redesigned, to include a more prominent grip. It also includes weather-sealing (gasket) on the F-mount.'

So maybe it was previous generations?

Speaking of weather sealed and the EOS 400/5.6 I had one too. I think it was partially sealed. A great lens regardless but I think the 500PE is in another class entirely.

Hmmm... I have 1.4TC iii but can't remember when I bought it. Most likely around the time 300/4 PF was released, I think.
It is definitely not weather sealed though. 2 years ago, I used my D500, 500/4e FL, TC14e iii
under raincoat in lightish rain for about an hour. Everything was fine that day but the next day,
I had huge amount of condensation inside the TC. If it is sealed, it is definitely not up to the standard of
D500, 500/4e FL from my own experience. However, I wonder if anybody else has a different experience?

If I owned a 500mm f/4, I would not be looking to buy this lens. A Nikon AF-S vI 500mm f/4 is about $3000 in very clean condition, the AFS-II is about $3400, and the G is about $4100... the E is for someone with a much bigger bank account than I.
I shot 300mm f/2.8 lenses w/ converters between 1990 and 2014 and only managed to get a native super-tele in 2014 when I bought a 200-400mm f/4 VR for about $2800. At the time, this was an extreme expense, and I have persisted with the lens because the investment was significant on my part.

The 500mm pf offers a guy like me, someone with a modest budget, the opportunity to shoot a high quality super-tele within a relatively modest budget. I've always seen myself as the guy who made the most of cheap gear, as I have spent my life buying my "high-end" optics used and in bargain condition.

So... while you might refer to your 500mm G as a dinosaur, it is not one compared to the AF-D, AFS-1, or VR1 lenses that I have spent my photographic career shooting.

I see the 500mm PF as a golden opportunity to taste a bit of the super-tele prime goodness that my more well off buddies have had the pleasure to shoot for years.

cheers,
bruce

This lens looks special. My only hesitation is buying more F mount glass. Surprised they didn’t release a Z mount version as well. Would be identical optics, just longer rear tube and different mount.

If any of the TC’s are weather sealed I’m a unicorn... I’ve owned the most recent versions and agree with your assessment 100%.
