Tricky question for those with experience disassembling this or other new VM lenses, are the shims accessible? I seem to recall it being difficult in the front-end filter thread...

Just a few shots taken on the A7RMKII with the TAP today.
I'm so impressed with the wide open performance of this lens I'm contemplating selling my 50mm Summilux.
It wasn't intentional Fred! : )
Sorry Ron ; )
It just seems a little indulgent to have both, especially that mines a limited edition version that some other Leica nut will pay a premium for
To me the the vm50 has clearer cleaner look compared to the slightly more contrasty Lux. Which I prefer.
But I still need to do more diverse environment tests to be sure before I flog it.
Two things the Lux is good at is retaining its sharpness at near distance due to the fle, the other is shooting wide open at far away subjects and retaining its resolution and displaying very little chronic aberrations.
Please see below for FOV camparison for the 50 Lux and VM50 1.2:
Lux 1.4
VM50mm
And below is a light gathering ability comparison:
Summilux at 1.4
Nokton at 1.2
I tested the C-Sonnar 1.5 for light gathering ability at the same time and the difference was indistinguishable from the Summilux, I put this down to having fewer lens elements rightly or wrongly.

I did have success with the TAP but I think im going to sell it. Just not into it
For me:
Day one Voigt 50 F1.2 test adapted to A7r3 and A9 w/ TAP resulted in a very high AF hit rate 70-80%, Very little fiddling required.
Day two with the same kit but also added a third lens, the Voigt 35 1.2 vII resulted in PITA about 20-30% hit rate. Had to restart camera/ or unmount and remount everything several times to regain operations. Camera battery was almost fully charged ( that was a suspicion). I did notice if I turn on the camera and the TAP doesn't move forward and settle, then I can expect trouble and should unmount and remount all over again until I see movement upon initiation.
Not sure why two very different TAP ops results with the same gear on two separate days. But it is what it is. When it works it's some magic to behold otherwise you might want to kick it to the curb. Simply not reliable in its current form.
I put my my Pronto up for sale. Not because of any issues but I realized why I sold the last one. I’m just not into it. Rather focus myself. I put my VM close focus adapter up for sale also. Just want a normal adapter.

I'm also using a Shoten M to E regular MF adapter. Very refreshing when it all just works !
I read somewhere that close focus adapters for Leica lenses can cause IQ issues as many Leica M lenses are not designed for CF. But I have not tested/compared for myself. Maybe not the same issue for the Voigt M lenses.

The CV 40/1.2 and 50/1.2 lenses are not optimized for MFD and therefore adding a close-up adapter will just make matters worse. One workaround is to step the lens down the lens at MFD or closer.
Lensrentals has a good test, which show it drop on the edges like most WO, but they did not test it past F/2. Above is wide open but I was shocked at some random F/5.6 shots on A7 mod. I should dig them up.
