Robert White are an excellent firm to deal with Helena and I wouldn't buy a Voigtlander or Zeiss Lens from anyone else. In UK terms there prices are always as good as anyone else or better and they are the UK importer of Voigtlander lenses.
The legacy that Robert left to fund cancer services in Dorset is also important to me.

Thank you Peter! Sounds good.
The only "problem" is that we are going on a road-trip in northern Norway early in September and be away for 2-3 weeks, so it is probably best if I wait with the order until I'm home again. Hopefully they will still have some in stock then.
Wonderful photos of what must have been a wonderful event Sebastien.
I think I have posted this Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.2 shot before somewhere but it seems somehow appropriate to post it again.
This gravestone is in the next parish. Giorgi Markov, as some of you may remember, was a Bulgarian defector working for the BBC who was murdered on Waterloo Bridge in London by an assassin (probably KGB) who injected him with a pellet of ricin.

How can I know if I own a good copy? There is a glow effect always at f/1.2
Stop it down to f2.8 and do whatever testing you would normally do. Sharpness should be very good by f2.8 if you have a good copy. Given that I do a lot of landscapes I would also personally test it at f5.6 expecting it to perform pretty much flawlessly at f5.6
Then play around with it with various scenarios between f1.2 and f2 to see how it performs.
That should give you enough information to let you know if you have a copy performing within spec.

The haze effect comes from spherical aberration at close distance. Once you shoot at mid-distance (>1.5m), haze/glow is reduced significantly. Alternatively you could use an achromat close-up filter and set the lens to infinity when shooting at close distance. It will pretty much remove the haze since the achromat filter acts like a floating element. Another solution is to stop the lens down at close distance.
This SE version is tempting.
Does anyone own both this 50mm f/1.2 and the Sony 55mm f/1.8 ?
I wonder how the sharpness compares at f1.8, mid-distance >1.5m

I don't own the 55/1.8 anymore but the CV 50/1.2 is one of the sharpest 50mm lenses I've tested at center. At f/2, it's sharper than the CV 50/2 APO at center and therefore, I would not be surprised if it is noticeably sharper than the 55/1.8 ZA @f/1.8.
Now that would be nice. I just sold my 55/1.8 to fund this Voigtländer. Earlier I owned the 40mm Nokton and it wasn't as sharp as the Sonnar. Sony 55mm has been the sharpest lens I've owned. But the 40mm was more than sharp enough for me on my 24Mp body and was my favourite lens of all time (which title this 50mm might dethrone). The Nokton rendering is just something special.

Yes I have always been very happy with the sharpness of the 55/1.8 on the 42mp (a7riii).
I wouldn't mind losing a bit for a better rendering and contrast.
Tonzah78, did you get the 50/1.2 yet ?
