The new s-line 50s should be in the wild any day by most accounts. If you’ve got one, I’d love to hear your thoughts and see some pretty pictures of your cat, backyard, or whatever random stuff people shoot when they get a new new lens. I’m still waiting for shipping info on my preorder.

I've used pretty regularly the 50 1.8's, 1.4's, g and d. Even the DX 35 1.8g, I think they all have their strengths but none of them is special. I prefer to use the 60 2.8 micro as my 50.
My favorite now in that focal length is the Micro 4/3 Panasonic 25 1.4, which is somehow better than all Nikon's 50's in my book. I would love to own the 58 1.4g but that's another thing.
It looks like maybe 50mm is coming back into style. This new "S" 50 seems to be on the right track. There is also a 1.2 on the roadmap, and Canon's 50mm 1.2 RF, and the Sony 55 ZA & Sigma Art 50 which probably caused this ruckus.
Anyone looking to pick up the 50 or 35 f1.8 S for a 10% discount, there's a 10% discount code today only on ebay.
Technically this applies to everything on eBay today, but there are a few authorized Nikon resellers that have the new Nikon 50 f1.8 S in stock and with code PHLDAYTEN you can buy it for a 10% off, which works out to $537.25 shipped for a new lens with full warranty and returns. Looked like there were a few left.

I got an email from BestBuy saying that my shipping date for the 50s has been epdated to December 31, 2019. I’m going to assume that they just don’t have their shit together.

That would be a long wait😀. I assume you mean 2018. I know of 2 local camera shops that have them in stock. I will pick one up today.

Ha, nope. It had been estimated to ship Dec 31, 2018 for the last month or so, but then they updated it to 2019. Weird behavior for a preorder from September with NPS priority.
I canceled and ordered from someplace that has it in stock, should be in my hands on Thursday or sooner.
