Let's see them side by side:
WOW! I need to do a test with my Sigma for comparison but THIS could be the turning point in my opinion about getting the GM as I was leaning towards not getting it but then the fact that I shoot the A7R3 where the cropping options are so nice, having that extra detail will offer some nice flexibility.
And if I ever feel like the bokeh needs some taming (the sigma is smoother but is not a HUGE difference) nothing a quick PP retouch cant fix
I am not saying anything yet BUT there is a chance my opinion is changing after this test and your awesome flower photos that followed.
hahahaha I noticed that
Another reason for my possible change of mind is...my recent quick shots with the Canon FL 135mm 2.5...kind of reminded me that I am not into MF any more hahaha. I mean, capturing those quick moments during a photoshoot.., which can be the hero shots when it comes to posing, or a genuine smile after a funny moment, all those things is why I love Eye AF so maybe the 135mm STF I was planning to get can wait.
Now if Samyang just rocks the 85mm 1.4, that will make me very happy.
I am planning to rent the A9 for the Utah Renaissance Faire that I was hired to do in August so having a faster AF 135mm could give me some awesome shots of jousting (although of course I plan to use the 70-200mm GM a lot for that action).
I am planning to have A9 with 70-200mm and A7R3 with 85mm 1.4/135mm 1.8 depending on what I am doing at certain times.

The flare issue is really strange. Almost seems like sensor reflection maybe. Kind of a bummer, but everything else looks pretty fantastic.
I've seen this since I first started testing the lens and because of that, I always kept the hood attached.
It looks like light is reflecting from the lens' front threads.
Perhaps this type of reflection is coming from light hitting the front threaded area
I’ll use a metal screw in hood that I actually just got. I always use a hood just a lot smaller than these OEMs but something to look at for sure once I get it

Time to cover that with felt and re-test
When the sun is back here I will try it again with some felt around that area. I've tried with a generic metal hood (1" long) and still got some reflection. (FYI)

I need to start doing that. Have seen those just haven't tried one yet. Definitely looks like a space saver vs the OEM hoods.
Mark Galer just posted a review on YouTube, with a number of photos at better-than-YouTube resolutions on Flickr. Interesting, not shabby, at least to me...
