These are amazing! I will live vicariously as I’m terrified of any water I can’t see the bottom of.

80 years ago, on April 25, 1945, partisans liberated Milan.
That date was chosen to celebrate the Liberation Day, as a symbol of the end of the war that produced the greatest destruction for Italy, as never before in history.
A war of aggression that we helped unleash.
Then a civil war was caused by the creation of the RSI (Italian Social Republic, or Republic of Salò), a puppet state wanted by Hitler against the legitimate decisions of the Kingdom of Italy, and with only terrorist purposes against the Resistance in actions of rounding up and with bloody reprisals toward the civilian population for the help given to the partisans themselves. The civil war was not made by the partisans. The fascists started it after they lost all legitimacy to continue ruling the country badly.
Although the war in Italy formally ceased on April 29, with the signing of the Surrender at Caserta, the liberation of Milan from the nazis was chosen to remind us that it is only thanks to the Resistance that we were able to enter the new international context with attenuated responsibilities.
Defeated, still co-responsible for the massacre, but with an ounce of dignity restored to us by the sacrifice of the partisans' struggle.
