I used to have the Summilux SL, I think it was the best 50 I've ever shot, the IQ was just unique and quite stunning at times. I sold it because at the time I had a Canon 50L, a Noct and a Summilux-m and it just felt like a whale compared to them.
It's been almost a year since I shot it and in the mean time I sold the Noct and the 50L. Then, I see this Summicron-SL 50 on the B/S boards at a really great price and I don't have an AF 50 so I buy it.
I wasn't really attracted to the Summicron because at f2, why?
Well, after shooting it for a couple days, I like it a lot. What it lacks in out of focus blur, it seems to add in pop to the focus point (it's sharp and I mean noticeably SHARP) and the bokeh while not being as blown out, is very pleasing. It also feels nice on the SL body, much more balanced than it's big brother. Again, it's only been 2 days but, I'm very impressed.
A couple of the wife @ f2
SL2-s / 50mm Summicron SL
They are both great lenses, but the Summilux has a distinct signature that makes it worth the extra weight for portraits and other pictures taken at closer distances. Otherwise the Summicron is the better lens technically. If you shoot stopped down then sometime like the 45mm Sigma f2.8 will be hard to distinguish from the Leica lenses at longer distances. It has its own signature closer up.
It's big and heavy but the SL 50/1.4 Lux delivers. Perhaps too much for portraits but I can always lower texture/clarity ins post.
Here are a few snaps from yesterday. All using Eye AF.
My daughter took the ones showing my wife and I. :-)
