The peregrines at Torrey Pines State Nature Preserve are putting on a good show. There are five, two adults and three fledglings, that are very active. The kids are particularly active in feeding and aggressive play. They can be observed from the beach or the Guy Fleming Trail at the cliff's edge. Below are a few images of the fledglings. I did not include any of the food transfers or full sequences of the aggressive play the fledglings engage in. They can be pretty amazing so I may post some of those later.
Lots of photographers come to Torrey Pines to see the peregrines. There have been a couple of posting on the FM site this year. Some days there are more than a dozen photographers, a few from very far away. If you have not yet been there yet, time is running out. Soon the adults will stop feeding the kids and they will depart to find their own homes.
These were taken with the Sony A9 with the 400mm f/2.8, sometimes with a 1.4X TC.

Thanks Bob. #3 was an evening shot, but these shots are from a variety of times. As you know the "May Gray" and "June Gloom" dominate the coastal weather conditions in Southern Cal. These were shot during the brief breaks in the fog bank or on days when it burned off. I prefer late afternoon and evening but it is problematic this time of the year.

Thanks Geoff. May and June are best but as noted above the seasonal fog bank can be a problem. If you plan to come, check first to be sure they are nesting and when they fledge.

One of the nice characteristics of Torrey Pines is the birds get close. The up-draft at the cliff wall allows them to glide, so the views of these beautiful, active, and acrobatic birds are spectacular. Sometimes I put down the camera and just admire them.

I have never tried out to shoot the Peregrines at Torrey Pines. Shame on me because they are so close. I may try this weekend. I hear they are pretty fast. I hope me and my a7RIII and 100-400 w/1.4TC can keep up.
Some of the best photos of PF....another good place to see PF's is on the Coronado bridge. Up in the NW, Yaquina Head by Newport Oregon has a nesting pair every year in the parking lot.
