Hi Guy, welcome back.
Could you please tell your opinion on how it compares to your former loved CV 21 (the 3.5 .
I was just screwing around with my new 21 1.4 Voigtlander and took this at F16 ISO 800 1/350th and cropped in and the detail is quite good. The surface of the leaves looks incredible at full Rez like a macro lens. I could have focused a little better plus there is a slight breeze on the passiflora in retrospect.
It looks much better at 3284 pixels at 300 dpi on my 5k iMac than on here at 72 dpi and 1600 pixels to meet the file upload max on this site.
btw can someone explain to me or send a link or example of what diffraction at small apertures looks like or what degradation of the image that defraction causes? I hear about it but kind of in the dark on the subject.
The one reviewed at phillipreeve.net was reportedly not well centered. But it wasn't terrible keeping in mind that was at F1.4. The corner crop assessing sharpness at 2.8 looks pretty good, but that may have been the best corner.
Just looking back at some of mine posted the colors are just so vibrant. Between this and the 50 1.2 these could be my in the box lenses. I need to start looking at 75/85/90. I had the Loxia 85 and it was really nice. I want small though and not sure if anything outside the old ZM 85
As nice as the hood is on this 21 I’m putting it away . Just going to use a 62mm screw in. As all my lenses works out to be. I had thoughts of sending the hood to SK grimes and cutting the petals off than I would probably use it or do it myself. Dremel duty

Got to get this lens at Big Bronco
Guy, would be interesting to know if the screw-in hood will cause vignetting. I like how the CPL can be rotated by just turning the hood, like the CV 40.
So you still own the 21 mm 3.5 ? I am debating with myself if I upgrade or not...😀

No I have a old banged up 62 now and looks good. I don’t have the 3.5 and reason I wanted the 1.4 was a very wide fast wide angle which this is the only one native I can think about. If I was to choose again I’d get the 1.4 even if size is a big issue it’s still worth it.
Agree but it's really not that much bigger. Or maybe better said your not going to mind it too much.
Also let's think ahead now we will have a 60mpx sensor . So you want to throw the best lenses at it but a 26mpx APSC mode is now a very viable option even for a higher Mpx user. 21 becomes a 31mm lens at 26mpx
That's 31mm with better than a A7III. Plus the lens will lose a stop and you started at 1.4

To me the weight isnt a factor, maybe to the people backpacking and very long hikes? (if you are weighing grams in your pack)
Another thing the lens is pretty good at f2.8/4, may not need a tripod all the time for landscapes?
Thanks, I thought so by viewing at the sample pictures available. I do have the 16-35 GM, which is better in the corners, but like Guy and maybe others I prefer MF and the colours and rendering of the CV lenses. I don’t mind the size and weight increase, but will like to have the option of 1.4, which I already fancy with the 40 1.2. Thanks to you both!!

For me, the only reason to choose the f3.5 would be for size/weight priority

The hood is nice though. The best I've seen from Voigtlander. All metal, light and reversible!
