Yes, we visited Bhutan in 2005.....well before it was a popular destination. And we did hike all the way in to the monastery.....and also detoured off to another small village that was very interesting. It was a delightful trip which included Siem Reap and Bangkok.....

What a strange coincidence - I was in Bhutan in 2005 as well. We hiked (partly on horseback) to the Tiger's Nest on August 21. We "borrowed" a young lady from a hotel, dressed her in a traditional costume, and she was our model for the day. She went to the Tiger's Nest with us. Here's a shot of her in a Monastery in Paro, and a shot of the Tiger's Nest Monastery. That was one of my more memorable photo tours. The other one is Burma/Myanmar where I shot over 20,000 images! And Iceland was pretty amazing too in a very different way!
