p.1 #1 · Rolling Fire - Florida

Congratulations to Mark Metternich for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 4 votes - View Previous Winners

"Millions of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to nature is going home; that wildness is a necessity”

― John Muir (paraphrase)

As I mentioned in another post, the great recent losses of loved ones and direct family members (mom - sister - cousin and more...) I have been going to nature (the ocean mostly) as much as possible, as a precious healing balm for my soul. It has always helped point me (as it does for so many others) spiritually to see the bigger picture of life. I always come back home exhilarated, re-centered and strengthened to continue on this journey with resolve to keep a positive attitude of gratitude no matter my lot in life. It is well with my soul...

Techie stuff:

Sony A7R2
Canon 70-200f/4@ 70mm
f/32
100 ISO
0.4 shutter speed

Sunrise - Florida.

Intentional camera movement, panning carefully with the waves to create a slightly more surreal/painterly in-camera effect. Tripod is usually used more like a monopod.

As always, processed in the new ultimate quality 32-bit Raw Layer workflow that is becoming the gold standard today because of its superior lossless adjusting. This helps much in enabling to print these (Lumachrome HD - the Ultimate Acrylic Print from Nevada Art Printers - Robert Park ) at very large sizes with incredible quality detail and overall fidelity. If you have questions about this 32-bit Raw Layer workflow, feel free to email me at mark@markmetternich.com

Looks like a fun technique you're developing here. What do you get out of f/32? Just not walking around with an ND filter?

Nice catch - very sensitive and delicate (complex) motion of water clump especially at swallowing point

Lovely. The foreground water you have gotten in-camera looks like what one would get with a Motion Blur filter in Photoshop.

Beautiful like a painting! The red is really impressive. F/32? With that, I guess that sharpness is not incredibly important, which makes sense given the subject.

Also like the quote from John Muir. More true now than ever.
