p.5 #5 · Voigtlander 28mm f/2 Ultron II Review | |
This is the first of 2 reports that I took yesterday comparing the new Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron II VM lens mounted on my Kolari Vision UT modded A7rII and my Leica R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2 mounted on the Kolari Vision UT modded A7rII and my stock A7rIII. This has been taking a long time and I am not sure if I will get through the second set later today or tomorrow.
First let me say, that because I had so many M-mount lenses and Leica M to Sony NEX adapters, Kolari Vision set my UT modded A7rII so that I could focus basically any of my Leica M mount lenses and Leica M to NEX adapters so that they could/would focus to or beyond infinity. This also applies to my Leica R lenses and Novoflex Leica M to NEX adapters. This is not the case with my Leica R lenses and my stock A7rIII.
Unfortunately I do not have any location that affords me the opportunity to shoot my tests quite as Fred does. So, I did the best that I could with what was available. Also, I am not familiar enough with how Fred is able to box his target spots on his images to indicate where he is enlarging the images for review at center, mid field, and corner. Additionally rather than using one of my Ball heads to angle the photos as Fred, I used my Fotopro E-6H Gimbal head mounted on my1257LVL tripod for these photos.
As to the first target area of these tests, I was photographing downhill across a field of grass toward an area of trees that were about 1/3 of the way from the top of the image so that I could place buildings in the upper left corner of the image for review. Additionally, I needed to do this in this manner so that I could adjust the focus of both lenses toward the center so they were approaching infinity. The focus location for all of the images are the trees just as the hillside dips down to the right (at about 2/3 of the image from the bottom and where there is the transition of the grass to the trees. The mid field image is looking above the transition of the grass to the trees about 1/4 of the way in from the left side of the image where it is flat and about to take the first dip to the right. The upper left corner is explanatory.
All Photos were taken as RAW files with no processing right out of the camera except for Default last LR version default settings and prepared as JPEG files.
Below starts the tests beginning with those taken with the Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron II VM lens mounted on my Kolari Vision UT modded A7rII followed by my Leica R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2 mounted on the Kolari Vision UT modded A7rII, and finally with the Leica R 28mm f2.8 Elmarit V2 mounted on my stock A7rIII. Images were taken at f2, f2.8, f4, f5.6, and f8 for the Voigtlander lens and f2.8, f4, f5.6, and f8 for the Leica lens.
