Sean, Thanks for the compliment. The effective focal length was 560mm. I doubt I could pull out any lunar details, as it's the sun we are looking at.
I used a variable ND filter dialed all the way up to darken the sun to the point where it would not blow out the highlights beyond the "solar orb".
