Some years ago when I was still shooting large format film I slept in the back of my truck parked on a mountain pass hoping to catch a good sunrise early the next morning of Rainier. When I awoke I was disheartened to see the entire area was engulfed in thick fog and there was no visibility at the lake. I set up the tripod and 4x5 and waited in the cold but was not feeling hopeful, so I was quite surprised and overtaken with excitement when a section of the fog dissipated right at sunrise to reveal just the top of The Mountain glowing in warm first light 😍
