I looked up where he lived and his famous "Frank Lava's Gunshop" picture was next door on Centre Market St, across the street from the old Police headquarters. He slid over on the fire escape for the photo.
Apparently, all the gunshops serving the police and as well as the newspapermen, like Weegee, lived across from where the paddy wagons came in. Convenient.

Other than the shock of his police pix, he had a great way of capturing spontaneity. Unfiltered reaction. ...Show more →
Really enjoying these "tw"! Especially the gun shop! I was telling Steve@eenermya that if I came to NYC to photograph, I may never return to Maryland! So much to see, so much to photograph!
This mural is at the end of the street across from the old Police HQ at the end of Centre Market St.
If you come to NYC, the beautiful old Police HQ and surrounding neighborhoods are great start. It's still the old tenement NY as in the De Niro and Pacino movies. Great cafe's, too. It's a better start than the Empire State or esp the Flatiron building, which seems to attract Leicas like Monarch butterflies to Angangueo.
If you and your spouse are artsy and adventurous, I recommend the Ludlow, Roxy or Arlo hotels downtown. If you want the new clean, sharp, shoppy NYC, The Standard in the Meatpacking district. Lot's of great shooting between them all. You will have no complaints from your spouse.
(I don't know much about the upper west or upper east side. They're a different part of the state.)

I love wall murals Steve! Baltimore has hundreds of them and there is a lady who gives tours. I am trying to get my wife to go with me for a few tours then dinner in Little Italy. Got to make it seem worthwhile for her to sit in a van all day while I take photos!
Great capture Steve!

These are from the town near me that has a dog park.

Thanks Dan, those colours really popped in the dog park! Were you waking your dog?
Our "children" passed on to the Rainbow Bridge years ago Andrew. At our age and medical issues we thought is was best not to add any stress to our "children"......
I get my "love" in at the dog park or in the neighborhood! But part of my soul is gone!
