Hurricane Ian taught us a lot about waiting! Waiting at this stop light is a minuscule example.
- waiting for the storm to be over
- waiting to see what damage it did to our house
- waiting for hours in traffic because most stop lights were out, major roads and I-75 were flooded and almost all stop signs were blown over or missing
- waiting for the utility trucks to come down our street and restore power
- waiting for the insurance adjuster to come out and insurance checks to be written
- waiting in food lines, FEMA lines
The people are resilient and starting to rebuild. We personally had some damage, but not nearly as bad as others. Everyone is helping everyone else! It's a great sight to see! Help has arrived from over 24 states in all forms from electrical to roofing, to heavy equipment. It will take some time, but we'll be back!
Thanks for your comment! It will take time to adopt to the changes Ian made. Many of the restaurants, gift shops, small hotels, etc. along Fort Myers beach are just "gone", for example. Personally, our favorite restaurant on Boca Grande is gone as well.
The healing has begun -a few more smiles, jokes, a bit less traffic, grocery stores are starting to keep up with demand, businesses re-opening. All good signs!
