Congratulations to Ross Martin for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 2 votes - View Previous Winners
Last year my then-2 1/2 year old great niece Abigail was diagnosed with brain cancer. After multiple surgeries and radiation, she is doing pretty well today but needs to go 10 years before remission is declared, so it’s one day at a time. Last week she was treated to a Make-A-Wish trip at Disneyworld and my wife & I were honored to be chosen as the guests. I took the energy of my angst about this tragedy and poured it into photographing the little princess, recalling the photojournalism style of my newspaper photo days years ago.
This remarkable 3 1/2 year old is absolutely changing my life. I hope you glimpse her beautiful spirit in this set. Thank you sincerely for viewing.
Ross the pictures came out fantastic. She is a beautiful child. Her energy and happiness permeate the images.
I will once again pray that one day you and she will sit with her children on your laps and share the pictures and tell stories from your trip to the Magic Kingdom.

Great set, Ross. I know the professional side took over in order for you to get these wonderful memory makers. Ten years is eternity when one is waiting for remission, but I know personally it flies by. Steve said it best.
My favorite image is the second. As I gazed, my emotions swung from joy to sorrow and back.
Ross, that’s a beautiful set👍🏻 Abigail is full of energy and has an incredible smile. I will certainly keep Abigail in my prayers for a full recovery. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful set and the backstory makes it powerful.

@GoodEgg, your thoughtful comments are so meaningful to me, thank you for expressing what you did! I am honored by you taking the time. It sounds like you or someone close to you understands this journey well. I do not feel equipped to fully love knowing the risks, but I hope that I can. Right now Abigail has become just about the most important thing in my life.
