The one chick hurried to get out of Mom's protection.
It almost felt like the siblings were yelling/calling for it to return back.
Some interesting facts: I was at Riparian very late in the day yesterday, and the light had faded. I sat on the ground with my camera planted in the mud with some really slow shutter speed to get in the necessary light and cleaned it up a bit in Topaz Denoise.
Guess how many kids are under mom's protection?

Very exciting wildlife photography! Tells a story.
She chooses a spot that assures cryptic coloration and that is often in gravel. So, a nest is easily run over. The red flag we have is seeing her agitation as she scoots around while looking at us.
The babies are precocial and they're quick to flatten out and remain still. Hope to hear/see the positive outcome of this nest.
Were there 4 chicks?

Love that low perspective. And that Sony 200-600 is very exciting! Good job with all of it!
These are all excellent images, but the last one stands out!
You found an interesting setting and got a great set of eye-level shots in spite of the low light level.

Thank you Robert. Yes there were 4 chicks and another 8 in another pond. I will be following their activity (with full wildlife ethics/etiquettes). I will keep us posted here.

Thank you Dave. I was really hoping the 1/80 and 1/100 work out (I did not carry a tripod / platypod or groundpod). I follow Steve Perry's advice - While I take care of my equipment really well, they are tools and not jewels. I put my tripod foot down on the mud/dirt and held it steady to get a sharp shot.
These are sweet but like the others the last is really lovely, the great low perspective and the amazing capture of the little guy in 1/100 of a second in time.
