Hopefully when they eventually put it on sale it's at least 300 off.
Indeed, was saddened to see this news earlier today, as I am currently saving to pick one up. Luckily, my LCS still had it for $1699 on their website and not only had one in stock, but honored the price for me. So, I now have it earlier than expected. I’m glad to be able to afford it but trying to do it the right way by selling and saving, but alas, here I am. 😆

Enjoy the new lens! Happy to hear they honored the price for you! I was hoping they would put it on sale for 100-200 off for Black Friday and I would pick one up. Now even if they do it 200 off it would be the same as if I bought it months ago lol

I will post my experience with the Kirk plate when it arrives later this week. I also ordered a Kirk base plate for the Z8 as I couldn't seem to find many options.
I picked up the Kirk collar and it doesn't disappoint. It definitely is more rigid than the Nikon plate so there won't be any flexure issues. It's locking system also minimizes any chance of the collar detaching accidently if the locking knob loosens.

Even with the price increase, it's still a good deal considering it's performance and image potential. Even though I own the smaller, lighter weight 100-400/5.6, I love the fact that the lens size is fixed as you zoom out to 600. The tromboning of the front group and weight shift as you go to 500 was a definite turnoff for me on the F mount 200-500.

I agree it's still a fair price for the lens, especially when you compare it to it's competitors like the Sony 200-600. The cost increase may not even be fully Nikons doing, it's possible some of the parts used in the lens have gotten more expensive over the past year. But the price increase does sting a bit for those of us looking to pick up the 180-600 and does hurt the value proposition a bit for attracting wildlife shoots to the Z ecosystem. Hopefully, this is a one-time thing and not an indicator of more price rises on the horizon.

This Heron was a regular at the lagoon I've been kayaking in. I didn't see him the last three times I was there. There's a good chance his leg infection may have gotten the best of him. It was getting progressively worse.
