Was the last image pre capture mode or you were patient ?
No pre capture. I haven't tried that feature yet. Not sure why not, just haven't tried it. I was sitting in the kayak watching him preening and stuff for quite a while. A lot of times these larger birds, Osprey, Eagles, Herons, Egrets, If they've been sitting around for a while they'll poop just before they're ready to take off. So when I see that I get ready for a takeoff.

After watching all the 64 pages on this lense, I finally received my own last night. I took my first few shot in my backyard. Z6iii and 180-600. Light crop, tone curve medium preset and some denoise.

Congratulations on your new lens...
The 180-600 has a great price to performance ratio... I love to use mine when I'm on a long hike or shooting from water.
enjoy,

Thank you for all the nice welcome. I really enjoy this lens so far. First few shots seemed soft but it was user error. I just moved from a D90 (coupled with the 300f4 for birding) to a z6iii and there's a world of difference between these 2 camera! I also moved from lightroom to photolab, so that's a lot of new stuff at the same time for me to learn, but It's all part of the fun, so I'll manage!

My 180-600 lens is mostly used on watercrafts... I often use it on a kayak or on ships when I'm looking for marine mammals.
Currently, the Monterey Bay is packed with humpback whales. I spent 3 hours on an overcast morning looking for whales. In that three hours, I think we counted at least 25 indivituals. Of the group, we were fortunate to to find a pair of whales spending a lot of time and and above the surface. While I didn't see any head to tail breeches this time, I did get some decent and unique above water perspectives...

Shooting from a kayak I was able to get this back lit shot and then slowly make my way around the snag he was perched on to get a front lit shot.

Nothing special here, but I continue to be surprised by what's possible with the 1.4 x TC with this lens. The real limitation, of course is f/9... But, seems I will be keeping the TC after all. On bright days, even in partial shade it seems to have good utility.
