Congratulations to Ross Martin for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 4 votes - View Previous Winners
I’ve been reflecting back on photographs made this year, and the memories of those places and moments. In a world that feels increasingly stressful and crazy, I’m extremely grateful for time spent seeking beauty and inspiration in the landscape. Here is my personal top 10 from 2023. I’m looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings, and wishing each of you much joy in your own pursuit wherever in the world you may be.

Fog added atmosphere to natural Catawba rhododendron gardens along the Appalachian Trail
Evening sun spotlights a section of late autumn mountainside in Great Smoky Mountains NP
I always love stacked layers of Blue Ridge mountains, and the black to white gradient in this composition was satisfying
Photographing in well-known spectacular locations is great, but there is something very meaningful for me to find a composition in humble Ohio close to my home. I loved the pumpkin color in this fall scene, and the strong graphics of dark tree trunks.
A long day of driving backroads in West Virginia led to the gift of this autumn scene just before sunset
I’ve been obsessed with composing tight shots of sections of waterfalls for years, and this one in North Carolina is my new favorite as it imparts to me a mystical and spiritual vibe
A single day in the Smokies this year was my most prouctive in 40+ years of shooting when misty clouds descended on the autumn forests and turned it into a foggy wonderland. This image sums up so much for me about what I love.
That same foggy day produced this wonderfully evocative scene in the higher elevations of GSMNP
I was taken by surprise when afternoon sun rays broke through the swirling mist for a few brief seconds
Particulates originating from the Canada summer wildfires provided nice conditions for the setting sun along the mountainous Tennessee-North Carolina border

Thank you Rajan. 6 of these are posted in this forum section for the first time. The process of going through a year’s images and putting together my personal best/favorites was helpful to stoke the fires of gratitude, and I hoped others might enjoy seeing some of the scenes I feel blessed to have experienced.
