This guy was already on his perch when I got to this site at 6:15 AM a couple days ago. He sat around for another half hour or so and let me get some shots. Then he took off and was gone for quite a while which left me shooting the ever present ground Squirrels and Pelican flybys while waiting for his return. He finally came back with a fresh catch and landed in a great spot for some more shots. Took off again and landed about two hundred yards away on the cliff face. After about a half hour he flew back and landed in a different spot a little further away but I was able to catch him taking off.
I've been to this spot enough times now, maybe seven or eight, that I knew if he comes in to my left and then dives behind the cliff face there's a good chance he's going to come up and land on the perch. The difficulty is you lose sight of him when he dives and then he's on that branch in an instant. So when I saw him come streaking in I quickly focused on the perch and was able to grab the last two shots just as he landed. This was shot over about a three hour period. Thanks for taking a look ! All comments and critiques appreciated.

These are excellent Garry. Knowing your subject and it's habatat let you get a great landing image. Those yellow flowers make a wonderful background.

There was one other photographer there and I did say to him while waiting " if we're lucky enough to get a landing shot I think it could be really pretty against that background"
Thanks Morris
