I’m full of gratitude for any time I get to spend out in the landscape, which this year included explorations in a variety of canyons in southern Utah, from small slots to narrows to vast expanses. The scenery is quite varied in this phenomenal region, including exquisite forests of aspen or ponderosa pine to contrast with the red rock surroundings. It’s a region that mesmerizes me when I am there, and creates a heartache to be back when I am gone. Hope you enjoy!
Dramatic clouds over Glen Canyon and Navajo Mountain
Excellent series! Voted!
Next time you come out to this area? And you like landscapes? I highly recommend driving Cottonwood Canyon Rd. When I did this 3 years ago with my son in law we didn't have time to stop so we could get to our camp site in Kodachrome Basin State Park. Been wanting to go back ever since but, well...life..
Beautiful. I love "On the lookout for canyon floor gifts". I'm with you on the wonder of that area. My wife and I try to get down there once a year. It is such a contrast to the green forests and mountains of WA.

I appreciate that, Jeff! Yes, I love Cottonwood Canyon Road, in fact two of these images were taken right off of that.

Thanks Jim! You are exactly right about the contrast in areas - I lived most of my life in the PNW seeing green everywhere and the first time I made a trip to Utah I was absolutely blown away by the red tones. They are nice complements of regions to spend time in.
Beautiful images Ross. Our last visit to Utah I found a geology guide to that great state and have enjoyed reading and making sense of the remarkable landscapes there. Recommended.

A very well-deserved win for thread of the week! Overall a really excellent set of photos. The canyon floor image does stand out though, really cool.
