I think it's (subjectively—haven't done tests) every bit as sharp. It's a fantastic lens, but for me if I could only have one I'd always prefer the 24-120 for its versatility. I think if I were shooting people-focused events the 35-100 would be a no-brainer.

Interestingly, my brother commented on my 1st post and said it had the feel of a water color painting. Also said his photography teacher in college in the early 80's would say it was photography as ART.
