Rob, the top 3 platforms are all very capable and it doesn't really matter which one you use as all will get the job done. I started with Final Cut since I'm a Mac user, but I started seeing a trend a few years ago of everyone ditching FCP and Adobe for DaVinci Resolve. My expert film/editing buddies also informed me they were moving to DVR and said if I'm going to learn something I might as well learn DVR due it's amazing color grading features. So I bought it and planned to dive in deep, but I've still only touched the surface. They currently charge a one time fee which is much more preferable than a subscription, but that might change eventually. Regardless, you can buy DVR 21 for a fixed price which is an amazing piece of software, and they are now working on a RAW processing tab for stills.

Rob,
I used Adobe Elements Premire for my first couple or 3 years doing video. I then moved to Resolve. It was hard to learn for me, but maybe not as much for others. So many things called different than I knew, it was confusing. But once it clicked, it became easier. The free version of Resolve has maybe 85% of all tools turned on, so you can get a good feel for the program before paying for the studio version. I used the free version at first, and I then bought the Studio version maybe 1 1/2 years ago or so. They do have some nice video boards that include the Studio license, so it is like getting a $300 discount on the boards if you have any interest in them.

Do you use one of their editing panels? I've never tried one but I'm sure they make things easier if you learn how to use them.

No, not yet. I caught Resolve Studio on a rare sale, so the board did not get bought. I'm not far enough in my skills to need one.

Sorry another one with just my iPhone from this weekend. I used the DJI OSMO 8 again. This is the kind of footage I wanted for our camping trips, something small and light. So far I think it is working out well. I will mix the C50 footage with some of our trips going forward. Looking forward to trying it in the kayak too.

Looks good to me Rob!
Amazing the quality you can get out of a phone.

Really nice footage, Dave.
The details and colours are fabulous and I'm amazed at how well the R5ii stayed locked on thet Eagle in the middle of all those branches!

Hi Dave,
Fabulous colours and sharp details on this great-looking Egret.
Nice to also have the ambient sound recorded. What was it that became lunch? I wasn't able to identify it, just saw a bunch of legs (I think).

Wow Rob, what a fabulous camping spot!!!
The first thing I really want to know is - are there any Trout in that lovely river/creek? I spent 25 years bush-whacking in mosquito/black fly/deer fly/ infested forests walking along countless creeks and rivers and fishing for beautiful Speckled Trout up here in the Great White North. After those years I switched to wildlife photography and then finally to videography.
Oh yea, back to your video... . It looks great with nice image quality and good colour . You should be able to add some really interesting clips to you main video footage with this setup. Go for it!

Hi All,
I've had a wicked case of bronchitis that has kept me inactive for several weeks now, but I finally managed to get back out there a few days ago. Here's a little video I put together from my time by the water.
Camera: Canon R5
Lens: Canon RF 200-800
Editing: Davinci Resolve 20

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks Rudy!
We don't get this Egret in breeding colors often, so it was a treat.
I'm also not sure what lunch was, but it went down quick!

Thank you Rudy, personally I do not fish but there was a couple of guys fly fishing and they were doing very well. I seen many jumping at the surface of the water.
