I love my Zeiss lenses. The Milvus 18/2.8, ZM Biogons 25/2.8 and 35/2, Loxia 85/2.5, and classic APO-Sonnar 135/2 may not be the all-around greatest objective performers available at their focal lengths, but they don;t let me down. And then there are the dozens of others (Hassy V, Contax RF, C/Y, and G, classic, Milvus, Otus, Touit, Batis, and, not owned, but used at work, Nano and Supreme) I owned and enjoyed over the years, and I've got nothing but fondness for them. I also feel the ML Otus lenses are a nice return to form for them; beautiful optics wrapped in finely crafted housings that deliver an excellent manual experience. I will always be interested in what they're doing, even if it doesn't find a more permanent place in my kit.
So it was with a bit of a heavy heart that I cancelled my preorder for the Otus 85. I made a swap with a coworker for his Hassy 907x 100c and 55V (love the lens, love the back, the camera's fun) with the goal of using the back with my Rodenstocks. So my plan this winter is to get that settled, and I think that plan is going to include adding the 23/5.6, so it was hard to rationalize buying an expensive 85 for the Sonys. I'll rent it at some point and see if I feel like I made a mistake.
