Recently I began delving into past image files taken with old Nikkor AI and AI-S manual focus glass and working them up in Lightroom, and I have come away extremely impressed with what these classic optics are capable of even in today’s world of stunning modern choices. So I dug out my Nikkor 55mm f/2.8, and the smooth focus and gorgeous build quality made me long to shoot these again, and I have now added mint AI-S 28/2.8, 105/2.5 and 180/2.8 to create a set that I am excited to use in the field this spring. For me it’s been a good reminder that these lenses and the images may be oldies but they are still goodies 😊
I hope you enjoy some of these views from various favorite places in the West taken with those classic and beautiful lenses (all on the Nikon D800). Nikkor MF lenses were 55/2.8, 85/2, 135/2.8, 180/2.8, 200/4.

I always enjoy your photography Ross. No gimmicks, just straight up solid. A vivid reminder that light, composition, subject matter, and talent still rule and will never go out of style.

A lovely offering to appreciate here Ross. I am a fan of the stately cedar image, those greens are lucious. Enjoyed your comps and presentation on all, great lessons for me to absorb
Ross, this is another incredible set of images! I'm particularly struck by "A stately cedar in the mountains of Washington"—it's absolutely beautiful. The composition and mood are superb. This image perfectly demonstrates that great photography is more about a keen eye for composition, skillful use of light, and effective post-processing than it is about the equipment itself. Fantastic work! You've earned my easy vote. Thanks for sharing, and keep raising the bar!

Gary, I am humbled by your words and am grateful you expressed that. I think by modern standards I would be classified as ‘old school’ and I’m ok with that 🤓
