Just purchased a pair of Profoto A2's and the Profoto Connect for Nikon as I thought Hasselblad licensed Nikon's iTTL. Set everything up and it doesn't seem TTL is working, so I start checking the internet for an answer and am getting conflicting info. I've even reached out to Adorama and B&H & one said it will work, the other said it won't.
Love the clic softbox's ease of setup, so I'm hoping I'm just missing something here and it indeed should work. Would appreciate any input!
According to Hasselblad themselves, the X2D works with the Profoto Connect. In firmware 3.1.0 they say:
Added support for Profoto A10 for Nikon in TTL mode. This flash is now compatible with the following air remotes: Profoto Connect Pro, Profoto Connect, and Air Remote TTL.
Alas, it was a faulty trigger. It's maddening when one does every conceivable troubleshooting step without considering that the brand new piece of gear is not working properly
No, likely the firmware version. BE CAREFUL the ProFoto update to the latest firmware breaks something with the March firmware update in the Connect Pro; not sure about the Connect. The trigger does not work with TTL with a Hasselblad camera after the update. I have a ticket open with ProFoto. Their position is that Hasselblad is NOT officially supported. They are going to try to get me a solution to roll back my updated Connect Pro trigger. I also have an email to Hasselblad support to understand their position. So far, their response was disappointing at best. Since Hasselblad advertises compatibility, I view this as their problem.
This is painful to me as I just transitioned my Godox lighting ecosystem to ProFoto because of my purchase of the Hasselblad X2D2. Still works with my Nikons of course.
As an interim solution, I have purchased a Profoto Connect with legacy firmware, (B1), and this works, abeit I lacking any recent updates.
Note: My problem was with the Connect Pro. I am assuming this affects the Connect as well but I may be speaking out of turn on this. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I did review one of my products and you might consider doing the same. I don’t think that it is news to Profoto that Hasselblad owners use their products. My review went like this:
I purchased this as a working option for my Hasselblad X2D and X2D2 and it worked. Unfortunately, an update removes the ability to use this camera in TTL. The Profoto App screams at me to update and I don’t see any way to stop updates/update notification.
Profoto’s response was very disappointing. They pointed out that the system was for Nikon and not Hasselblad. I greatly regret having purchased Profoto equipment.”
Perhaps this points out more about my shortcomings as a buyer, but I don’t think that Profoto is blameless here.
