p.1 #1 · Help with unexpected Zf auto focus issue.
Conditions: Outdoor sunny scenes. Camera set for:
Auto subject detect
AF-S
AF area mode: Wide-L
AF-S Priority Selection: Focus
In the course of a day's shooting, I occasionally experienced the shutter not tripping. After repeated attempts, shifting camera position slightly, camera would finally fire. Later reviewing images in camera, I notice the AF switched to Single Point ( not something I knowingly did) about the time I had the problem noted. This happend 3 or four times thoughout the day, randomly. Pouring over the manual, so far I can find nothing that explains this behavior.

I don't like being stopped from "release" (A2 AF-S priority selection). If you are not in focus, your shutter will not trip with the selection set to "Focus".
I hit the "i" button accidentally more often than I like and it might be you change "AF-area mode" somehow?
Else, do you have any of the buttons mapped to change AF-area mode?

You might be on to something here. I have the AE-L/AF-L button set up for Back Button Focus; EC dial on C; Shutter speed on 1/3-step, so rear command sets shutter speed. I’ll just bet, in haste, I hit the “i” button instead of the AE-L/AF-L, spun the rear command dial, and changed the Auto focus setting. It’s the only thing that makes sense.
I’ll be careful next time out to be sure I press the right button. If the camera doesn’t trigger the first thing I’ll check is the Auto focus setting in the “i” menu.
Thanks for your response/suggestion, I appreciate the effort.
