I don’t know about you, but reading this article, and more from Adobe’s website made my head swim. Is it just me, or is Adobe jumping off the deep end making there products/services/T&Cs more and more complex and difficult to understand?

Fortunately I'm not using the degenerate Adobe credits. Is this only for work done on their outsourced servers? If I'm using my own $3000 video card with 3300 AI TOPS why should I have to pay?

If I’m reading this correctly, the bigger story is that Adobe is starting to charge licensed users of their applications additional fees for full access to features of the programs they are paying for.

That’s a dangerous development.
I believe the charges are for access to their computational facilities, not access to the feature of the program. The users computer is not sufficiently powerful to store the AI data and do the computations.

I remember when generative AI was first released in beta, one of the review videos I watched warned not to check the AI box for every edit and get dependent on it because using it beyond a certain limit would eventually come with a price tag.

Adobe is using this to generate an incremental revenue stream above and beyond their subscription fees. Adobe invested a lot of money over a number of years to develop these features. They gave their customers access for free in order to test/refine their technology and get their customers hooked on the capabilities. Now that folks are getting hooked, it's time for Adobe to start making a return on their investment. Whether we like it or not, this is a standard business practice. One of Adobe's core businesses is data analytics and they have a huge amount of information on how customers use and value their products including the specific features. They will figure out how to maximize their revenue on this. Again, this is how for profit businesses work.

I just learned that you can go to your Account in Creative Cloud and see exactly how many generative fill credits you have used and how many are remaining. Apparently my el cheapo "Photography Program" subscription gives me 250 per month free. As a sports photographer I might use 25 per month during the busy season, ie, generative expand to add room sbeneath the feet where I shot too tight, etc. So my impression is that everyone gets some free usage and heavy users pay? Here is a copy & paste from Adobe: You can access your generative credit count in your Adobe Account or by navigating to your product’s in-app home screen and selecting your profile icon. A counter will show the number of monthly generative credits allocated to your account and the number of generative credits you have used in this cycle.

I bought Adobe stock in the early 2000s for about $25 a share. So Adobe (and their complainers) keep paying me handsomely for using their software. It's called hedging.

Sounds like they're simply doing better accounting for something they promised and provide. Not clear how that complicated anything. If it bothers you, don't use the product.

Yes this is a simple enforcement activity, but it is against an ever more complex infrastructure of goods and services. Hopefully my initial post alerted some so they could take appropriate actions before an expensive lesson is learned.
And yes this is how companies make money, development and sale of new goods and services, nothing new there, been going on for decade, maybe centuries. Maximize profit, minimize cost…or something like that from way back in my MBA school days.
Adobe has earned a reputation of developing a continuous relationship with their customer base. I for one like to keep an eye on their activities and how they might affect me. YMMV.
I use Lightroom only, and if I understand everything correctly nothing changes for me WRT use of AI object removal. (At least for now. If I am wrong please let me know).

It is indeed getting ridiculously complicated for someone that is not a photographer and has other minutiae to deal with in real life. The situation reminds me of the early cell phone days when you had to figure out all the minutes and message costs.

Yeah, clicking on a "View your generative AI balance" link is certainly a complicated process. I see where you're comin' from.

Does anybody know what happens when you use your 250th credit? Does it warn you that you have used your credits and:
a) give you an option to buy "n" more credits?
b) advise you that you will be charged "n" cents for each use hereafter until <end of month | date>?
c) just charge for an a) option or b) option without any notification?
d) something else?
