Nikon Z8 L-Brackets - RRS vs. Kirk

p.2 #1 · Nikon Z8 L-Brackets - RRS vs. Kirk

Let me add to this thread that there is an incompatibility when using a Nikon Z8 camera body, RRS L-bracket for Nikon Z8, Nikon FTZ adapter (version one only), an "Acratech Quick Release Plate for Nikon FTZ Adapter" and at least certain lenses with a collar.

In my case, the incompatibility exists with the Sigma Art 40mm f/1.4 F-mount. With this combination, it is impossible for me to clamp the Acratech quick release plate--attached to the lens' collar, which would allow for a balanced, stable assembly (this is a heavy lens, and I dislike mounting it and the camera from the L-bracket, so I remove the L-bracket.)

I doubt this configuration is used by many except night-sky photographers (this is a well-known excellent lens for night-sky photography). But if any such are reading this post, be warned.

The specific problem is that the Acratech dovetail is too close to the RRS L-bracket to get the clamp in.

Yes, I'll find a workaround--but found this annoying.
