Thumb grip just arrived. It makes a big difference to me. If you hang the camera around your neck and shoot two-handed it's not so useful but I like to shoot one-handed with a wrist strap when I'm on the street and it's almost essential.
I now have the thumb grip and half case from SmallRig - early days but the combination seems to make the camera much easier to hold one handed and adds minimal weight/size
I enjoy using the Smallrig L-shape grip on the X-E5. It doesn't add to much weight (~60g), and makes the camera easier to hold. I think that it adds some protection to the camera. It's easy to install and remove, and interferes only a little with sdcard extraction.
It's very well made and makes the camera handle so much better, now it doesn't slip from my hand and the pinky doesn't go under the camera. The provided corded strap is very good too, better than the original.
Now I'm waiting for the SmallRig thumb grip, I suspect it is a bit too long for my liking but let's see. For now I'm using a generic one.

How is the fit below the lens and around the screen? I ordered an off-brand one for my D-Lux 8 and under/around the lens the fit was not great.

Fits perfectly, nice space around the lens mount, around the lens release button and it doesn't block the back screen. I also like how they made it with an extra bump for the grip, not too big but does add to the ergonomics (I suspect most of the half-cases that will be made for the X-E5 may not have this extra grip).

I just went to the SmallRig website and they say the case is 'discontinued.' Where did you find it?

I also got mine on Amazon, in my case the spanish one, was out of stock for 1 or 2 weeks but it available now.
I've also seen it on Aliexpress, I got the SmallRig thumbgrip there since it was cheaper, but it will take time to arrive.
It's not available on Amazon in the U.S. It must have gotten caught up in the tariffs since it was a new product and probably didn't ship in time. Thanks, rump.
High demand. I contacted them yesterday (8/27) to order just the case. I was told they were out of stock since demand was higher than expected. Not really surprising, given that so far, I've only seen SmallRig and iWoodstore producing accessories for the X-E5.

Going back to the original reason I brought that up. The X-T5 is not much smaller than an RV is. That was my simple point and for 500 bucks or so more you get a superior camera in almost every way. Doesn't mean the Fuji is bad. Heck I sold RV's myself multiple times for different reasons for around 2400. Doesn't mean it's bad either. Probably my favorite Sony body since the Rx1rii. Not everyone sells things because they think something is bad. As far as "value". If you think photo gear is an investment and your worried about resale value. Well, I'm just going to leave that alone for the sake of the thread. ...Show more →
I just sold my A7RV and A7CR to go back to the XT5 for many varied reasons. And no, the A7RV is not "superior" in every way. The list of things it lacks compared to a Fuji XT5 or XH2 or even an XE5 is long. The only 2 things I can think of that are better after using both extensively is that the Sony has better AF tracking and higher resolution. However the overall image quality is worse in my opinion.
I could make great photos with either, but I found that the Sony's were very uninspiring. Also, the full frame lenses were just big enough to be a turn off. As small as the Sony bodies are, the lenses are like using an old brick cell phone... YMMV.
Interesting. I'm shooting the X-E5 as my first Fuji and enjoying it. Partly is just because it's something different and I'm still learning it. But technically speaking the RV is superior in every way. I don't even see that as a debate. I am enjoying the simulations but let's be honest. If I really wanted I could do the same thing on the RV/CR. The attraction is having one body that can meet all my needs. Right now it appears the X-E5 can do that. If i was a birder or sports shooter that would easily be a hard no. But I don't shoot much sports anymore now that my 2 are out of college. Long term we will see if I stay with Fuji. If Sony makes a CR body with the RV rear LCD I would buy back in in a second. Can't stand flip screens. That said even then I'd probably keep the X-E5 and Voigtlander 27mm as an EDC but sell off everything else. Who knows though. Still in honeymoon phase and maybe Fuji will catch up in AF to everyone else. We will see. HS-LD wrote:

Sorry have to agree that it's not superior in every way. I tried the A7RIV and owned the A7CR for over a year. I've enjoyed shooting and output form every other camera I've owned over the last 5 years more. (6 OM/Olympus, 3 Fuji, 1 Ricoh, & 1 Leica)
It may be better for you, but that does not mean it's better for everyone.

Still waiting for my X-E5 to arrive but until the I’m shooting with the used X-T5 I bought to relearn the Fuji system. I already own the Sony A7CR and A7CII and plan to finally take them all out together and compare them head to head. My gut feeling right now is the Sony has less lag but that may be due to the way my X-T5 is configured. We will see. Also have an A1 and A7RV that I use for BIF and landscape and have no plans to leave those for Fuji APS-C.

I still have a foot in the silver based fiber gallery print world, and print my own sepia and selenium toned gallery prints. So my eye is tuned to a pretty high level. Digital prints are not as good by a small margin, but I think it's an ink in paper vs silver on paper thing. (B&W only, digital trounces film prints in color.) So with that being said, the output of the Sony's leaves a lot to be desired and I find the Fuji's make much more aesthetically pleasing files before and/or after processing. That's the main reason I find Fuji XF superior to Sony. And really, a cameras reason for being is to make nice photos, so that's a big one.
But after using both extensively, the Fuji's can do things that the Sony's can't in terms of UI and features, and I missed a lot of the features that Sony doesn't even offer.

Think about the handling of the Fuji versus the Sony without a joystick. For me, that was one of Sony's failings. I don't like using the touch screen to adjust my focus point. On the A7CR (and RX100 VII), you can't just set the D-Pad to control point location. I was always having to hit that center control. And why does the message about AF points have to be there on the all information screen? I did find a way to get rid of it. I documented it on a Sony forum, but it involved creatively reassigning buttons.
