p.1 #1 · Flying Scotsman at Locomotion

Locomotion is part of the National Railway Museum in Shildon, Co. Durham, not far from the Stockton and Darlington Railway, opened in 1825, widely considered the world's first public railway to use steam locomotives for both passengers and freight.

Those weird looking side shields are used to help lift the smoke from the stack up and away from the crew cab. At least thats what the American steam locos used them for.
