p.1 #9 · Ricoh GR IV price set to be $1,496.95 (before tax)
Had it been <$1000 I would have possibly bought. This price, no way.
For what it's worth, I live in Japan and was able to buy a pair of GR1 (2013) for ~$270ea. There's simply not a good reason to upgrade at that kind of cost. My wife has a sweet little GR for the rare occaision she wants to use a real camera, and mine has been on several trips with me already.

I would think that most of the increase is because of the huge US import tariff. In another thread someone said ½ is due to the tariff, but it is likely to be more than that.
What are the prices in Japan and in the EU? Is Ricoh trying to equalize prices worldwide? As an aside, in 2019 I was trying to by a pair of Kanda reading glasses in Tokyo and found that price in Japan was $290 (at the then current exchange rate and after rebate of Japanese sales tax) and $170 in the US from an Amazon seller.

In the light of the US tariff situation, this statement doesn't have quite the same meaning, or effect, that it would have had before the US tariff situation.

EU price is €1,349.99, which is $1573/USD at the current exchange rate. That should include the ~22% EU VAT, which means €1,052.99 before VAT, or $1,227/USD.

^ Thanks. So, it looks like Ricoh is not trying to equalize prices worldwide but, obviously, has to take into account the US tax regime. The thing about VAT is that it is also applied to domestic producers.

I have no dog in this hunt, as the GR line has always been of little interest to me, but I'll say that the body changes/rocker button, better battery, and generous internal storage are things that would offset the price to a degree for me if I was in the market. No weather sealing is the obvious bummer, but more for dust from my perspective, not water.
In this form, it's the first semi-interesting GR entry for me personally and overcomes most of what I found unappealing about the previous entries. Prices are going to be insane on everything for a while, hard to fault Ricoh for that. There is no such thing as "voting with your wallet" in this market when talking about MSRPs, unless you don't like certain business practices *COUGH*LEICA*COUGH*

That's still quite steep in the EU. A no-go for me. But it also shows that the US price is skewed because of the tariffs.

Prices in Japan aren't much better. Looks to be ~$1300 after exchange. I guess that's not too far off from where I expected it to be, but I also imagine availability of this thing is going to be SLIM over here for a while. Any time new products drop in Japan, scalpers scoop them up so bad. Camera webstores have anti-bot measures built into them here now.
When I ordered a Z5II from Kitamura's used site the other day (and later decided on the ZF instead), it had me do a phone verification before adding to my cart.

I'm big fan of Ricoh GR but the GR IV just way overpriced.
GR III costs $900 already made me think about several years since my GR II was still doing good job.
But now the IV almost $600 more expensive

Yes, it’s 1349,- here in Germany including tax. I am okay with this price if I take into account how unique this little camera is, what it brings to the table. You will make many pictures that otherwise you might very likely never take because it’s so convenient and pocketable. It’s about taking pictures. Glad Ricoh still offers and improves this gem.
