Seeing the YT videos, it’s definitely a nice lens. And good to see OM System did this on its own. This is not a holdover product from Olympus or a rebadged Sigma.

All that said, I still don’t know what its place in the market is.
I own the 40-150/2.8, the 300/4 and the 150-400mm. I’m trying to imagine what I would do if I didn’t own any of those and I think I’d buy the 40-150mm with a 1.4x converter.

Seems like a really nice lens, but I just can't wrap my head around the price given the very attractive alternatives available for far less money.
I already have the 1.4 TC, so the 40-150/2.8 probably makes more sense than the PL50-200, but either one would do a fine job as a mid-range tele for my uses.

Petr posted a short review of his experience with the 50-200 including comments on TC usage and comparison of bokeh with the 150-400 and 100-400 @ 200mm.

You know, maybe for sports, but to me for birds the useful range starts at 600mm equivalent.

It will also be an expensive semimarco lens
Love it! a mini Gandalf
but I wish they had spent the money on a new camera body too
it is also needed from Om
I have a hard time seeing myself buying a 50-200 when I already have a 40-150 f2.8
although you should never say never,, you could win the lottery
I think those who get this will be satisfied .. very many positive
reviews already .. will be interesting if there are equally positive comments from us ordinary hobby users ..and I look forward to pictures

Hey first time I have seen "Gandalf" from anyone but me. I like to think I started the Gandalf moniker. I have posted about "Gandalf The Great White Wizard" for the 150-400 TC starting about 3 years ago when I got mine. I post this on the M43 sites and posts once a day at least. Seems to be catching on.

agree,
I shot (and burned myself right out of photography in the process) people/weddings/portraits long before sliding into the quiet solitude of birds/nature...mainly just to have a reason to power on a camera.
among many other lenses, I still have my *dZuiko 50-200 mk1, and mZuiko 40-150Pro.
I have a rather complete FF milc system for people stuff as well.
I appreciate all that OM did to make the 50-200Pro what it is and I'd like to have one but it'd be a silly purchase just to support OM mainly.
I am trying to decide if I want to shoot more people stuff again, which would make the 50-200Pro purchase less silly , but, if I were to shoot people stuff again...I am already seriously over-covered with equipment to do so.
My dZuiko 50-200 has always been at the top of all my lenses (Zeiss, Contax, Leica etc., etc., etc.,) I like best for it's rendering.
I know the mZuiko 50-200Pro is not the dZuiko 50-200 but I have seen rendering from the Pro that I like and recognize. ...Show more →
The background rending of the images I have seen from the 50-200 F2.8 are the best I have seen from OM telephoto lenses. I could see some upgrading from the 40-150 + TC as that combination can sometimes struggle with rendering. If I was shooting a lot of owl images, this this 50-200 would be an ideal lens for that.

I supposed if I ever bought a telephoto lens this would be the one. Not too long, not too dark, doesn't overlap too much with 12-100mm f/4 (my current longest lens). But I would still prefer a prime if they ever made one (something like a 150mm f/2).
Price in Canada is significantly lower than price in US. $3700 USD should mean $5100 CAD, but instead it is $4700. I wonder why....
