I'd love to see a direct comparison between the 50-200 with 2x TC compared to the 100-400. If the 50-200 tc combo is even on par with the 100-400 that would place the 50-200 at the top of my wish list and render the 100-400 obsolete. To have the ability to shoot at 800mm EQ @ 5.6 and then remove the tc and have a 100-400 EQ @ 2.8 would be a game changer for me. Considering the 30" MFD of the 50-200, that might even tempt me to sell my 90 3.5 and put that money towards the 50-200. I love photographing dragonfly and butterfly but am finding I'm not really into true macro

I did not get much chance to test the 50-200 with a 2.0 since my wife demanded it back within a few minutes. With a 1.4 TC it clearly outperforms the 50-200. However, this is what we called "catalogware" back in the day. Cleaned up shots look roughly identical.
My wife did shoot the 100-400 the first day at Laguna Seca Ranch but nobody shot the 50-200 that day.
