These are precisely the types of videos that make me think most people don’t actually know what they are doing with video when they think they need this camera.
There is absolutely nothing special whatsoever happening with his final output that you couldn’t do on any other modern Nikon in h265.
Unfortunately I don't think Tyler mentioned what codec he shot this stuff in… I think he only mentions 4K60.
Looks pretty good whatever it is. Don't love the skin tones, though (looks pasty to me eye)…
Is the hype settling down about this camera? Seems like some of the recent reviews suggest the #1 thing to like is the screen.

Reviewers are always going to cling to more or less the same talking points.
Yes, the screen is a big (no pun intended) feature, but so is the ability to shoot R3D NE in a camera of this form factor and price point.
This is a good (if long), fairly objective review of the ZR, which I think sums up its pros and cons quite well.

After about 2 weeks with it, I agree with most of the above. Far from perfect but still a significant entry into the mirrorless "cinema" / video-first hybrid camp. Frustrating at times, but still feels novel and exciting to use. And it produces gorgeous footage - even if Cine D and their lab tests would beg to differ.
Tried it with some vintage glass—the 28mm f/1.4D. Beautiful lens, and I can’t wait to use it as my main lens for an upcoming projects.
From a photo perspective, I actually enjoyed the ZR with this lens. Getting the focus point exactly where I wanted it was a bit annoying, though. Hopefully Nikon adds eye-detect support for MF lenses in a future update. In bright light, screen is killer!

Cheers!
These look sweet. What adapter are you using?
I’ve also been enjoying the photo experience with the ZR (and mostly the Z 40mm F2 SE - such a good, cheap little lens). And I’m looking forward to adapting other lenses, beyond my Sony ones.
Also, after some use, the small grip has become almost entirely a non-issue to me. Only when I attach my 24-70 F2.8 GM II does it start to feel a bit hand crampy. So with larger/heavier lenses in general, a grip or cage would definitely be recommended. I plan on getting one… whenever they become available.
Here’s some quick footage from a stroll around the neighborhood last night.

I am just using the F to Z adapter- Focus confirmation works great with it in video. It really opens up a ton of beautiful older screw mount lenses to be used on the ZR-
Again though, I really wish Nikon would add the eye detect function in this camera. Seems like an obvious thing especially since the Z6_3 has it.
The 28 1.4D is a rare lens and I was able to grab a like new copy. Looks like it was never even used
Also I have to create way to much content where I would use a second monitor to watch focus/for any issues. This screen has made it so I don't need it and I can stay looking at the camera while doing so.
This is a winner - Its going in the keep column for cameras for me-
I don't even think any of this footage got graded in Davinci. Don't even get me started on the yellow ass indoor footage. RoamingScott wrote:

I actually just remembered late last night that I had this Rokkor-X PG 50 1.4 and MD-E adapter somewhere. Found it today and attached it via the Megadap.
Focus confirmation seems to be working, as well as eye detect (bad handheld phone screen captures attached).
Weird that it wouldn't work with the FTZ adapter. Have you checked the MF subject detection area setting? I think it's set to OFF by default. I also added the lens via the Non-CPU lens data setting. Not sure if it really has any bearing on that.
I'm going to play around a little with this combo and see how it feels.
This camera is a keeper for me also. Despite all its quirks, I think there's something special about it.

Yea it works- I missed a menu of the 66K endless Nikon options
I think the shadow flicker thing is overblown. I haven’t had much of an issue with it at night / in very low light. As long as it’s not an extreme condition, one exposes properly (including choosing the correct base ISO), and uses NR intelligently, it’s absolutely fine. At least in R3D. I have not tried h.265 or any other codec.

Nice.
BTW is the camera a polycarbonate or magnesium exterior?
